Metal Free Dentistry |

Since eliminating mercury from his office in 1986, Dr. Layton has been working steadily to improve metal-free dentistry. Today, with the latest in bonding technologies, LaytonDental creates the best in restorations without using metal for strength. We provide non-metallic crowns and inlays that are the best restorations available. Dentistry is different today, it is beautiful. Unsightly silver fillings that weaken a tooth can be removed and replaced with bonded tooth colored restorations that strengthen teeth, and the teeth will look like they never had a filling. Also, for a dental practice to be metal-free and environmentally sound, the office and office personnel must have protocol for removing existing metal. LaytonDental, in-line with our philosophy provides that proprietary protocol, which isolates metal during extraction, creates a strong air flow with vacuum to maintain the patient's separation from the metal and it's gasses, and properly disposes of any metal.
Protocol for Safe Amalgam Removal Safe amalgam removal requires that no one be exposed to the mercury when removing mercury/silver fillings from the mouth. That means that not only must the patient be protected, but the dental personnel as well.
An added benefit to our high volume evacuation is that aerosols pose a threat to all personnel in the dental office in that they can carry blood products and infectious diseases, and can remain airborne for two or more hours. In our office we simply do not let them exist. |
Pictured is the protocol of Dr. Grant H. Layton's dental office where patient and office personnel are completely protected. The "rubber dam" is the rubber sheet that fits over the tooth being treated. It completely isolates the work from the mouth. The mouth stays clean with no exposure to the "mud". The high volume evacuation hose that you see our model patient holding removes 2 gallons of air per second away from the patient's face. This effectively draws off all aerosols from the drilling, and all mercury off-gassing. Our office has no mercury vapor in the air and no aerosols from the drilling. The patient is not exposed to any airborne contamination.
